Castle Hill Lighthouse & Trails

A legacy in its own right, the Castle Hill Lighthouse continues to guide ships through the East Passage of Narragansett Bay — just as it has since 1890.

The site was originally owned by Alexander Agassiz, who sold his portion of land for just $1 to the U.S. government to build the lighthouse. It's now managed by the U.S. Coast Guard.

From the Castle Hill Lawn Terrace, it's a short walk to the lighthouse through a scenic stretch before opening up to the rocky shoreline at the end of Ocean Drive. The interior is not open, but the view of the lighthouse watching over the shoreline is a worthy of a photo.

Along with the lighthouse trail, Castle Hill's 40 acres of land offers ample space to walk and explore.
